What constitutes the size of a desktop application program?

Text files are usually small in size, therefore I wonder what really makes up the size of executable desktop programs which are dozens(sometimes hundreds) of megabytes in size? I understand that the extension of a text file changes it's characteristics, eg, .dll
What constitutes the size of a desktop application program?
Images, audio, video, etc. And there are tons of text, you are right.
