You can either reduce the resolution or just compress harder into jpeg.

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/|||1. Right click on the photo and go to the %26quot;open with%26quot; option and choose %26quot;paint%26quot;

2. In Paint, at the top where it says %26quot;image%26quot; click it then go do the %26quot;resize/skew%26quot; option.

3. you can type in a percentage of how much smaller you want the picture. (make sure you keep both horizontal and vertical percentages the same or your photo will look all messed up)

4. go to %26quot;file%26quot; and click %26quot;save as%26quot; pick a name for you resized picture in the %26quot;file name%26quot; box. Under it it says %26quot;save as type%26quot; you want to select %26quot;JPEG%26quot; this should make you picture a smaller file size.|||If you have a Mac, a quick way to create a smaller copy of a picture is to open it in Preview (or other program available) and take a screen shot of it (shift command 4). No matter what you are going to lose quality though, I wouldn%26#039;t recommend it. I am not sure if shrinking an existing mp3 is worse than making a smaller one in the first place.

Why does the file size change?

I am trying to put a movie onto a DVD, which is 1.24 gb. When i drop the file into teh program, it grows to 8 gb. How can I prevent this from happening?|||actually, what happened when u trying to put a movie or video, it becomes Video DVD

now this video dvd does not depend upon size, it depends upon length of the movie / video,

normal single layer 4.5 GB DVD support 120 minutes of video playback, if your movie is larger than than, it grows in size......

now there can be a solution to it, if u r trying to play that in computer, burn that in %26quot;Data DVD%26quot; instead of %26quot;VIDEO DVD%26quot;, this will depend upon size. and won%26#039;t show 8GB

hope u r using Nero to burn that, if not get it from here :

or here :

hope this solves your problem....

let me know for further difficulties...

thnx|||You can%26#039;t prevent it. To put it on a DVD it is changing the format of the data to produce a video DVD.

The DVD video format takes more room.

This assumes that you want to use it in a DVD player.

If you just want to save the file to run it on another computer, you should save it as data and then it should not grow in size at all.|||you probably have different format video on your computer and your burning software is converting it to DVD format automatically

example 600 mb of divx movie will be 3-4 gig of DVD format

the DVD format is the one you play on your home DVD player

That%26#039;ll reduce the size of the file considerably, for your web page, and it%26#039;ll display pretty much (almost impossible to tell by eyeballing it except for teensy images) as is! Gimp and PaintShop Pro have similar abilities (PaintShop Pro calls it %26quot;Save for Web%26quot;). I don%26#039;t know what you%26#039;re using.|||If you%26#039;re using a windows xp... Can I change the maximum file size allowed to download to an external hard drive?

I am trying to download and save a file that is 4.4 GB to my external hard drive. I get a window saying that the file I%26#039;m trying to save exceeds the limit file size allowed on the disc, which it says is 4.0 GB. I%26#039;m thinking this can%26#039;t be true because I have another file that is 4.2 GB on the same drive already. Is there a way I can change the maximum allowed file size to save on my external hard drive? Thanks if you can help.|||By default, all external hard drives are formatted under FAT32 file system. Unfortunately FAT32 file systems accept a maximum file size of 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 bytes or in other words 4.2 GB. That is the reason why you have a file size of 4.1GB sitting silently while a 4.4GB file fails you.

Your PC might have been using NTFS which does not have this limitation. (NTFS, and many other file systems do not have this limitation).

Before you convert your external HDD%26#039;s file system, make sure you have a backup of all your data, as changing the file system requires formatting it. Hope this helps.

The other easier workaround is to split the file into two and storing it. There are many free splitters available in the net. My favorite is WinZIP.|||you have to format it to ntfs ... fat32 `has a filesize limit of about 4 gigs ... if u have a mac dont do it ...|||You can also try defragmenting that hdd to see if that would help|||Sounds to my like the filesystem is corrupt. Or run Scandisk and have it perform a surface scan as well.|||maybe you need to expand your cache size|||What is the capacity of your USB external hard drive? What is your virtual memory size? Check the property of ext HDD. You have another file of 4.2 GB size on HDD, this does not mean you can save a file of 100 GB, check the free space in your HDD. If space is their on external HDD than you should have downloaded it.|||Nata said it all. You have to get rid of the FAT32... fat32 was used back in windows 95, 98. By windows 2000 the NTFS file system has been the norm.

You said it is an external hard drive. is there a way to connect it to another computer temporarily and copy your files? Once you do that you may reformat it under windows %26quot;disk management%26quot; which is under %26quot;administrator settings%26quot; on every windows computer that I have ever used.

you will have to take it out of the case to reformat it, and when you do make sure you pick the NTFS file system.

Does the font style of the letters in a file change the size of the file?

Basically, I%26#039;m asking does the font style in a file change the size of the file? Thanks! :)|||Mostly no.

If you are embedding the font, then it will. Most applications that create PDF files, for example, will automatically embed the fonts. If you use the same font in a number of styles, then your output file will be larger.

Since you have not told us what application you are using, I can鈥檛 be more precise.|||It shouldn%26#039;t, no. Font styles in a file are just references to the font in your system fonts directory.

I have a few blank 4.7GB CDs but every movie I want to copy on is around 7GB... is there any way to make it fit or change the file size? will it still look good on tv? I looked online and it seems like hardly any discs in stores hold more than 5BG|||I%26#039;ll assume you meant DVD not CD as a CD holds 700mb, anyway a dual layer DVD has over 8Gb of storage, verify that your burner supports the extra layer (it probably does)

Which dig picture frame will display canon-camera pictures(10mega-pixel)without needing to change file size?

Since most frames have limited on-board memory (between 128MB and 256MB) you will want to resize the image files to 1) match the actual frame image ratio and 2) save them at 72 DPI 3) saving them with just enough JPEG compression to keep the image files under 100KB

While you can view the larger 4.5MB files as you can see, you will only be able to store 25 to 45 images. Resized, it will hold over a 1000

Most modern photo programs allow you to resize in batches and rename the new smaller files|||10mp are roughly (very roughly) equal to 32x40 inches at full size. You%26#039;re not going to find a digital frame that big...sorry. Just so you know, downscaling will not reduce your image quality unless you get a bad brand, so I%26#039;d suggest getting a larger sized frame from a manufacturer of good repute, such as Canon or Sony.

Changing the NTFS file size limit?

I want Windows Media Center to record tv on my Western Digital My Book and it say that its NTFS file size limit is 30min.

How can i change that any help would be great.

Thanks|||The additional info you provided indicates that your file system is FAT32/FAT not NTFS. You can convert to NTFS as follows:

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt

Open a command prompt window (i.e. Start, Run).

In the command prompt window, type

convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs (where Drive_Letter is C, D, etc.)

Good Luck|||30 min?

There is no file size limit on NTFS.

NTFS file sizes are only limited by the size of the drive itself. In other words, as much space as you have left.

If you are only able to record 30 minutes, then it is because either you do not have enough space available on the drive, the DVR program is not set to compress the video or the program is setting the 30 minute limit.

How do you change a file size?

I am trying to download my CV on to a website but it keeps saying the file is to large. How do I find out exactly how big it is and then minimize it to the correct size?|||Right click on the document icon and select properties - this will give you the document size. You can zip it to reduce the size - again, right click on the icon and select zip|||I hope for you that you didn%26#039;t put a lot of fancy stuff in your CV, If the file is that big then you should reduce the size. Your CV might loose some of its quality to impress but it will be uploaded.

The easiest way is to change the format of any embedded images: try to save the image in a format that provides good resolution without going over 100KB, Photoshop is a good option but You can still use MS Paint, (it comes with all versions of windows I think). For the text try using standard size fonts and no colors and other fancy borders. Maybe you put tables in the CV, they also increase the size try reducing their number.

A normal CV should be able to upload after that and its visual quality would not have been reduced that much. In case it doesn%26#039;t work the radical solution would be to transform your CV into Rich Text Format (save file as *.rtf) and remove the pictures, you can be certain it will upload after that.|||The most common reason for a large document size is embedded images. Removing the images should reduce the file size.|||If you right click on the file and go to properties, it will tell you.

If it is just a CV in MS Word or a PDF, then it should only be 1-10Kb or so. If it is much larger, then it is probably due to an image in it. You will then need to reduce the resolution of the image in an imaging program like Photoshop etc.

You can reduce a file by using Winzip which compresses it but sometimes not by much.|||Depending on what exactly you are trying to upload you can compress it into a zip or rar format which can reduce the size so that you can upload it.

How do I fix that?|||no if u have a cell phone nokia ,sony ericsson with that they give a cdrom in that there is a software which decreases the bit rate of the song without comprising the quality use that one to decrease the bitrate

for eg when u ply a song in winamp it shows on the screen 128Kbps or 192Kbps etc of a particular song

well what the software does is that it decreases the bitrate .lowest is 32kbps

so ur 5MB songs becomes 1MB

if u dont have any of the above go to download.com or just google it

i have Sony ericsson mobile from there i got a software called DISC2PHONE it does what i have mentioned above and the quality is not compromised.|||Its the song its self.

Any music file in mp3format has a bitrate, while u r playing the song in win media player, or winamp they display the song bitrate jus lyk that 192kbps(e.g.).

Why does the file size change when I burn a disk on mac?

Inserted a DVD +R into my iMac to burn movies. The movies where originally downloaded from online and are approximately 7MB or more. When I drag and drop each movie file to the disk it shows the file size as 328KB. How to change file size of mp3 when buring to disc? I can pick size when I rip, but not when I burn. Help.?

When I rip something from a CD, I can pick the file size or sound quality but I can%26#039;t when I burn to disc. I want to be able to do this because my car mp3 player only plays 160-whatevers, not 192 or anything else higher. Is there a way to convert a music file prior to burning using windows medie player? Sorry if this is confusing, but it might make sense to someone.|||The reason why you can change the file size when you rip is because what you are doing is telling the computer how mush data to sample from the CD per second. (Also known as kilobits per second or kbs.) The higher the kbs, the better sound quality. Your car mp3 player plays 160kbs or less (which is great quality. 128kbs is my minimum for ripping.)

You can generally load your mp3s into an audio editing program and save the file at a lower bit rate. Also, if you don%26#039;t have too many songs, you can always rip again at a lower bit rate. For future reference, change your rip rate to 160kbs or lower.

What exactly does changing your "Paging file size" of the virtual memory on your computer do?

Are there any risks to doing this? Ive read that its safe to make it 1.5 to 2x bigger and it will make your computer run faster.|||On older Windows OS%26#039;s (95, 98) it was helpful to set the virtual memory size. For recent OS%26#039;s, including Windows 2000/XP/Vista, it%26#039;s best to let the OS manage the page file unless you know a specific reason to set a specific size.|||It just gives Windows more (or less) temporary storage on the hard drive. Why is the file size changing?

i have a video that i downloaded and the original size after downloaded is 696MB but when i import the file to Roxio Easy CD and DCD Creater i changes to 5.07GB. why is this happening and how do i fix it?

ps. i have a PC NOT a mac|||Its because when you downloaded the video, it uses a compression method. When burning a file especially multimedia files like video, the file will be written to the CD but in the compression method that is not as high as it has when it saved in a PC. It%26#039;s because ROMs do not have the ability to read this kind of compression method.

|||File Size changes to number of bytes present in that file, they may sort or add some space that is not necessarily needed. Bit is flash and off the circuit. So when they copy into Integrated Circuits, I mean there is extra or less flashes to represent data.

1. Your computer may be not defragmented. Incontiguous/ Uncompact files create extra space.

2. Your video changes into another format, the file interpreter converts into another format. Downloaded 696MB(may be it is a MP4/ MP3/AVI, it is an economical-compressed type format for music and video from internet). Roxio Easy CD and DCD Creater i has 5.07 GB may be due to increase of parameters from derived MP3. File interpreter may give unnecessary spaces or blanks or identations when translating.

I’m not quite sure when it happened (sometime ≥ v4.0), but iPhoto has finally fixed the non-anti-aliasing of exported photos. This makes my life a tad bit easier. The following steps are those that I used to take to get photos up on this site:

Create a temp folder in iPhoto.

Copy to this folder all of the pictures from the latest trip/event/whatever that I want to put up on the site.

Go to the temp folder and remove all of the photos that I know I’m not going to use on the site.

Sort the remaining photos in the order that I want.

Tag these photos with the “web” keyword (more about this here) for future reference.

Export them from iPhoto with no resizing and where the filenames are based on the album name. This will export the images with numbers that correlate to the order that you have them laid out in iPhoto (e.g., temp-01.jpg, temp-02.jpg, etc).

Use QuickName (or whatever you like) to remove “temp-” from the front of the filenames. I’ve found no way to get iPhoto to use only sequential numbers in the filenames (i.e., without a title preceding the number).

Use Photoshop to batch-resize the pictures to the size that I want for the website (currently 500×375).

Create a new folder on my webserver for the pics and drop them in there along with my Slideshow script.

Think about a faster, more efficient way to do this.
