I save in the nikon raw format,,I was told to keep a set in tiff but the files are very large. if II re size the file in a smaller version can I change the file back to a larger one without loss of quality??

No, you will lose quality if you go from large to small and then back to large. Keep an original set in tiff format, and then make smaller copies, that way you have the best of both worlds. File size should not be an issue, storage is incredibly cheap.
